OCCUPATIONAL ENDORSEMENTS ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY: WATER OR WASTEWATER OPERATIONS - http://www.uas.alaska.edu/academics/oe/envtech_water.html - The Environmental Technology program offers options in either Wastewater Operations or Water Operations. Both are designed for the entry-level operator and will provide the required knowledge for State of Alaska OIT and Level 1 operator certification. Students who complete these endorsements will be well qualified for operator positions. These endorsements articulate with the ENVT Certificate and the A.A.S. in Environmental Technology. All classes are offered via distance education, originating from the Sitka campus.
ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE - http://www.uas.alaska.edu/academics/undergrad/certs/env_tech.html - This certificate program emphasizes technical operations. Students successfully completing this program qualify for the Department of Environmental Conservation Operator-in-Training Certification examination and meet educational requirements for Level One certification in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, and Wastewater Treatment. Students may also qualify for entry-level employment in water/wastewater utilities or as environmental technicians. The certificate also contains the first year of course work required for the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Technology. Labs for this program will require campus visits – please contact the school directly to get more information, or potential alternatives.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE PROGRAM – ASSESSMENT AND SAFETY COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST – TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE - http://catalog.fccj.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=1&poid=112&bc=1 - The Environmental Science program is designed to provide and to enrich the student’s basic skills, knowledge and abilities in the fields of environmental compliance and technology, and to enable the students to gain entry-level employment in the field.  The program focuses on federal regulations for environmental protection, worker health and safety, homeland defense, and the transportation of hazardous materials.
The Assessment and Safety Compliance Specialist Technical Certificate will supply well-trained workers with broad perspective on the environment and safety. There is a need for this training because businesses or companies must be in compliance with federal regulations such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Guide, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. Employers are required to protect and to preserve the well-being and health of their employees. Although this may be a primary duty or a collateral duty for personnel, every company must assign these responsibilities to someone. The curriculum for the Assessment and Safety Compliance Specialist Technical Certificate will prepare those responsible for safety and health in the workplace to manage hazardous waste, to respond in the event of an hazardous incident, and to properly collect, analyze and interpret the results of quality air, aqueous, and solid environmental samples in a safe and efficient manner.

HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY (HSET) CERTIFICATE AND DEGREE PROGRAM - http://www.eicc.edu/highschool/programs/career/environmental/hset/index.html - The goal of the HSET program is to provide you with the knowledge and skills you will need to assist an organization in managing hazardous materials and wastes, protecting workers and the environment, and minimizing the organization's risks. The program focuses on health, safety and environmental regulations and compliance.  Health, safety and environmental technicians protect employees and the public by controlling hazards in the workplace. HSET professionals apply the principles of math, science, engineering, communications and economics to the protection of people, property and the environment. The HSET program focuses on environmental, health and safety regulations and compliance. Graduates are trained to assist an organization in the management of hazardous materials and wastes, to protect workers and the environment, and to minimize the organization's Worker's Compensation. CERTIFICATE PROGRAM - The HSET certificate program is appropriate for students who have prior education and experience in a related field. The most likely candidates for the certificate program are those with an industrial background and a college degree. Students may choose certificates with either an environmental or a safety emphasis or choose a combination of courses that meets the students needs, with assistance from their advisor to reach the required 18 semester hours for their personalized certificate; The student, on their way to earning the A.A.S. Degree may automatically receive certificate when the required courses are completed. Job Outlook - Our graduates have jobs with titles such as environmental safety and health coordinator, industrial hygiene technician, environmental technician, safety coordinator, field technician, or hazardous materials technician. The trend today is toward hiring individuals who can handle both safety and environmental responsibilities. Rising insurance costs, heightening awareness and concern for the environment, advancing regulations and technology as well as the creation of new job classifications in health, safety and the environment point to continued employment opportunities for HSET graduates. According to the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation and the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, "The career opportunities for innovative safety professionals have grown faster than the number of trained and qualified individuals available."

Individuals wanting to increase their working knowledge of this field are best suited to for this course. However, students may be able to secure employment as a Technician by completing the Windsmith Certificate. This certificate will introduce students to how the wind works, its reliability, and the related economic, environmental, and political issues. Students will also be introduced to the basic operating principles of wind energy systems and status of the industries past and future. OSHA safety regulations and standards that pertain to the construction and maintenance of wind turbines and the energy industry will also be covered. ENERGY TECHNICAL SPECIALIST ASSOCIATE DEGREE (Announced in media article - http://www.jacksoncountypilot.com/Stories/Story.cfm?SID=22677) Two-year degree program being launched this fall that prepares students to work either in the renewable energy or traditional energy industries.   Minnesota West’s Jackson campus students can take the program online.  In addition to the energy technical specialist degree, students will be able to earn a 16-credit certificate in one of four specialties — ethanol production, biodiesel production, wind turbine maintenance and solar energy assessment. This program is designed to teach students about the electrical power system in North America, including basic electricity, generation, distribution, and transmission, with a strong emphasis on system operations.  System operations is the aspect of the energy industry that deals with the management, delivery, safety, and reliability of the wholesale electrical power market. Students have the following options: Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Electrical Transmission Systems Technology, Program Certificate in Electrical Transmission Systems Technology, Electrical Transmission Systems Courses: College Courses for Professional Development, and CEH-only Courses for NERC Accreditation. BSC is a North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) approved continuing education provider.
